DiSC is a language that crosses cultures; it is based on actions we can observe and is a description of how people approach problems, other people, the pace of the environment and procedures.
DiSC is not about labeling people, but being aware of the messages actions telegraph and how to read the messages, then adapting one's own behavior to respond most effectively to the messages from others.
Workshop Objectives - - participants will...
- Discover more about themselves in terms of preferred behaviors at work
- Understand how to capitalize on behavioral strengths, how to recognize when those strengths can become weaknesses
- Recognize and appreciate the different styles of co-workers (or other business associates) and
- Learn how to interact more effectively with different styles
Workshop Content
The Dimensions of DiSC® - - the four behavioral styles we all have characteristics of are...
D = Dominance - How we respond to problems and challenges I = Influence - How we influence others to our point of view S = Steadiness - How we respond to the pace of the environment C = Conscientiousness - How we respond to rules and procedures set by others
Our intensity in these styles determines how "high" (how predominant) our D-i-S-or-C is
We'll examine: Human Behavior & Our "Needs" Driven Actions Explore the needs driven behavior behind our actions - what makes us behave the way we do
- The High D -- needs results and will behave accordingly
- The High I -- needs acceptance and will behave accordingly
- The High S -- needs security and will behave accordingly
- The High C -- needs to be right and will behave accordingly
Knowing some of what drives each of us, DiSCover how these "needs-driven-behaviors" affect our actions, how are we perceived by others and how we interact at work
To best understand our own actions, each participant will receive an individualized DiSC PPSS Behavioral Profile & General Characteristics Report that details their tendencies in these areas at work:
Behavioral Highlights Behavioral Overview Motivating Factors Preferred Environment Tend to Avoid Strategies for Increased Effectiveness Demotivating Factors Behavior in Conflict Situations and a Behavioral Tendency Continuum
Participants will have responded online to this profile prior to the workshop - the results are based on each person's perceptions of him/herself
We'll Study Each DiSC Style in Detail DiSCover the outstanding characteristics of each style, its strengths & the limitations, the value of the style to a team of co-workers/to the organization, and how the styles complement /conflict each other. This is done through:
- People Reading 101
Learn to recognize the clues people display in their behavior, be able to assess the style you are dealing with
- People Reading 201
Adapt your own behaviors to interrelate most effectively with different styles; identify a co-worker- or a customer - with whom you would like to work more effectively
- People Reading 301
Develop a strategy for dealing more effectively with this person The DiSC PPSS General Characteristics Report is the baseline for learning about DiSC and one's behavioral tendencies Other reports are available and can be included, customizing the workshop to your unique audience.
For example: in a management development class, you may opt to include the Approach Toward Managing Others report as a supplemental source of information to the General Characteristics Report.
